Enything is the first single from Skunk Ugly, an eclectic, warm, and buoyantly psychedelic experience, while simultaneously dark, moody, and introspective. A sentimental joyride through the lens of longing, heartache, self-realization, coming to terms, and cabin fever. Conceptualized and recorded instrumentally in January of 2009 during the coldest and darkest days of the southwestern PA winter within the 10×12 foot windowless room that was then called home. Aside from vocals, bass, and a real drum kit, the song was completed in a day or two. It would sit on the shelves for over 5 years until circumstance would influence the melody and lyrics to practically write themselves in late 2014. Fueled by emotion and the substances that tried their best to numb them, those lyrics would be belted into a small closet full of clothes the same night, a cheap but trusty microphone nestled in the corner. It would be more than 5 additional years before the project was unearthed once again and the bass guitar would finally get its chance to provide the warm low end of the song. A few more years later in 2025, in the midst of diligently working towards finishing this project, OK Go’s Dan Konopka would contribute the drums to add the finishing touch. With this, Enything was one of the first songs from the upcoming Music From Dad LP to be completed. And now, nearly 17 years after those idle hands found the organ keys that would become the heartbeat of Enything, it’s ready to be shared with you. Hope it finds you well.
